day of Pentecost (Jewish Festival)
Acts 2:5-7
devout Jews from every nation were living in Jerusalem.
(Note this was not a bunch of pagans or Godless Greeks)
each one heard the disciples speaking in his own language. Nôt unknown, but local diverse dialects.
All are Galileans? the languege was not totally unexpected.
Acts 2:12-24
12 “...What can this mean?”
Then Peter stood up
These men are not drunk
‘In the last days, ...I will display wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire, and clouds of smoke.
The sun will become dark, and the moon turn to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord.
Then whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
“Fellow Israelis, ...through miracles, wonders, and signs that God performed through him among you, as you yourselves know.
Acts 2:30-32
“It was this very Jesus (expected) whom God raised, and of that we are all witnesses.
Acts 2:37-41
When the crowd that had gathered heard this, they were pierced to the heart. They asked ...“Brothers, what should we do?”
...“Every one of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins.
For this promise belongs to you and your children,
“Be saved from this corrupt generation!”
So those who welcomed his message were baptized.
That day about 3,000 people were added to their number.
