Jeremiah 24-26

  1. Chapter 24

Parable of two baskets of figs,

    Chapter 25

    God spells out 70-year captivity,

    Chapter 26

Message in temple court during reign of Jehoiakim,

Acts 2-3

Acts 2:1
day of Pentecost (Jewish Festival)
Acts 2:5-7
devout Jews from every nation were living in Jerusalem
(Note this was not a bunch of pagans or Godless Greeks)
each one heard the disciples speaking in his own language. Nôt unknown, but local diverse dialects.
All are Galileans? the languege was not totally unexpected.
Acts 2:12-24
12 “...What can this mean?”
Then Peter stood up
These men are not drunk
‘In the last days, ...I will display wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire, and clouds of smoke.
The sun will become dark, and the moon turn to blood, before the coming of the great and glorious Day of the Lord.
Then whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
Fellow Israelis, ...through miracles, wonders, and signs that God performed through him among you, as you yourselves know.

Acts 2:30-32
“It was this very Jesus (expected) whom God raised, and of that we are all witnesses

Acts 2:37-41
When the crowd that had gathered heard this, they were pierced to the heart. They asked ...“Brothers, what should we do?”
...“Every one of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins.
For this promise belongs to you and your children
“Be saved from this corrupt generation!”
So those who welcomed his message were baptized.
That day about 3,000 people were added to their number.

iConnect #3 — Discipleship

The Gospel Message

Gen. 1:26-31

God’s plan for us is very good.

Psa 139:13-14
Fearfully made, not a mistake.

Pro 16:9
Not a curse, it is a gift.
Sometimes our frustrations, are those things God has setup for us to do.

If God is as smart as I think He is, these two verses are connected.

Eph 2:8-10

God’s purpose for you, then, is to realize the full potential of who you were created to be. Discipleship is an intentional journeying with others to take hold of that truth.

Phil 1-22

Implications
1.   Discipleship invites; it doesn’t demand.
2.   Discipleship invites us to reaffirm the goodness of creation and God’s plan for it.
3.   Discipleship invites us to ignite and take hold of our role in creation.
4.   Discipleship invites us to a deeper, better story, and a truer true.

Jeremiah 16-17

Jeremiah forbidden to marry, Chapters 16 — 17:18
Chapter 16
Jeremiah 16:1-4 God knows how women and children will suffer in the invasion.
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. (Psalm 137:8, 9)
By this we know that the invading army took Israel’s little ones and dashed their heads against the stones. God wants to spare Jeremiah this anguish.
Our Lord gives warning of the coming Tribulation period.
And woe unto those who are with child, and to those who nurse children in those days! (Matthew 24:19)
Jeremiah 16:14-15 In this darkest moment of their history, the prophet sees the brightest future. Jehovah will restore them to the land.
Jeremiah 16:17 Their iniquity is not concealed from the eye of God. v. 21 — They must recognize and obey their God.
Jer 16:20 Can a person make a god for himself? They are not gods! (ISVnn)
Chapter 17
Jeremiah 17:5 “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man.”
Jeremiah 17:7 “Blessed is the man who trusteth in the LORD.”
Jer 17:7-9
Blessed is the person who trusts in the ʟORD, making the ʟORD his trust. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by a stream. He won’t fear when the heat comes, and his leaves will be green. In a year of drought he won’t be concerned, nor will he stop producing fruit.” 9 “The heart is more deceitful than anything. It is incurable— who can know it? (ISVnn)
Jeremiah 17:8 See Psalm 1:3.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 Only God knows how depraved the human heart really
is. No man can fathom its depths of iniquity (see Matthew 15:19). H. Message to king in the gate,
Jer 17:14
Heal me, ʟORD, and I’ll be healed; deliver me, and I’ll be delivered, because you are my praise. (ISVnn)
Jeremiah 17:19-27
Jeremiah 17:21-22 They are to observe the Sabbath day.
Jer 17:24
If you listen to me carefully,” declares the ʟORD, “and don’t bring a load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and you consecrate the Sabbath day and don’t do any work on it, (ISVnn)
Jeremiah 17:27 — Failure to obey will mean the destruction of the gates and palaces of Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 10-12

Comparing God to idols:
3 For the practices of the people are worthless. Indeed, a tree is cut down from the forest; it’s the work of the hands of a craftsman with an ax. 4 They decorate it with silver and gold. They secure it with nails and hammers so it won’t totter.
(Jer 10:3-4 ISVnn)

Jer 10:6
6 There is no one like you, ʟORD. You are great, and your name is great and powerful.

Jeremiah 7-9

Jer 7:4
‘The Temple of the ʟORD, the Temple of the ʟORD, the Temple of the ʟORD,’
The Israelites took pride in the temple.

Jer 7:14
Just as I did to Shiloh, I’ll do to the house in which you trust and which is called by my name, the place that I gave to you and your ancestors. ( ISVnn)

Jer 8:1-3
sun, the moon, and all the stars of the heavens, which they loved and served, and which they followed, consulted, and worshiped.
...death will be chosen over life by all the remnant that remains of this evil family,”

Jer 8:21-22
Because my people are crushed, I’m crushed. I mourn, and dismay overwhelms me. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? So why is there no healing for my people?

Jer 9:6-8
“Look, I’m about to refine and test them. Because they’re my people, what else can I do?

Jer 9:23-26
This is what the ʟORD says: “The wise man is not to boast in his wisdom; the strong man is not to boast in his strength; and the rich man is not to boast in his riches. Rather, let the one who boasts, boast in this: that he understands and knows me, for I am the ʟORD who acts with gracious love, justice, and righteousness in the land. I delight in these things,” declares the ʟORD “Look, days are coming,” declares the ʟORD, “when I’ll punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh: Egypt, Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, all those who live in the desert and shave the corners of their beard; indeed all the other nations that are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel that is uncircumcised of heart.”
